Duke Energy Bass Strait Gas Project

Duke Energy International planned to build a natural gas pipeline from Victoria across Bass Strait to Tasmania. The gas would come from Esso/BHP’s Bass Strait fields and be processed at the Longford plant. Construction of the line began 2001 and was hoped to be completed in 2002.

The 305KM line has landfall at Bell Bay on the north coast, where the 240-Mw Bell Bay power station was reconfigured to operate on gas. Duke is shaping up as the major carrier of Bass Strait gas to southeastern Australia, having brought it’s Longford-to-Sydney Eastern Gas Pipeline on stream earlier in 2000.

Amiga Engineering Pty Ltd manufactured and supplied a number of 600# Flanges and Weldolets for the Duke Energy Bass Strait Gas Project.

The Tasmanian Gas Pipeline was hoped to bring a new competitive and reliable energy supply to Tasmania to fuel industrial growth and spur long-term employment opportunities in the state.
